The Fort Bend County Office of Emergency Management will be hosting the H-100 Hazmat Awareness course on Thursday, January 28, 2010. This course will be offered at the County’s Rosenberg Annex located at 4520 Reading Road, Rosenberg, TX 77471.
This is an 8-hour entry-level course is for all responders and other public employees or officials who are likely to witness or discover a hazardous material incident. The course provides a regulatory overview, an understanding of what hazardous materials are, associated risk and an understanding of potential outcomes. Students will learn to recognize the presence of hazardous materials, the roles of first responders in emergency response plans, how to use the Emergency Response Guidebook and how and when to call for assistance. The course is a prerequisite for most other Hazmat courses taught under the HMEP Grant.
Those that might want to attend include responders and any other public employees or officials who are likely to witness or discover a hazardous substance release and have been trained to initiate an emergency response sequence by notifying the proper authorities of the release.
