Deputy John Norsworthy Dies After Car Accident

News Release from the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office issued today:

The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office is deeply saddened to report Deputy John Norsworthy has succumbed to injuries sustained in a serious motor vehicle accident. At the time of his death he was surrounded by family and friends. Chief Deputy Comments, “We have lost one of our finest. The world is a little darker place but the heavens have a new shining star.”

On Monday, December 27, 2010 at approximately 6:43 p.m. Deputy John Norsworthy was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident while en-route to back-up a Deputy on a traffic stop. Deputy Norsworthy’s was life-flighted to Memorial Hermann Hospital, downtown, where he remained in critical condition with head injuries and internal bleeding. The Department of Public Safety continues to investigate this incident and requesting any witnesses who on-viewed this accident to contact Sgt. The Fort Bend Deputy Sheriff’s Association is coordinating a candlelight vigil in honor of Deputy John Norsworthy. It will be held outside by the Peace Officers Memorial Monument at the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited and asked to bring candles, balloons and signs. In his honor, please lower the flags to half-staff beginning today through the end of the week.

Deputy John Norsworthy leaves behind his wife of 19-years, his 11-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office along with the Fort Bend Deputy Sheriff’s Association would like to respectfully reiterate that a benefit account at the Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union for John Norsworthy and his family has been established. This account will assist in defraying the expenses incurred while the family stayed at his side during this critical period. As you can imagine, these expenses alone can cause a financial hardship on anyone. We are in the process of identifying all of the financial burdens the family has and/or will suffer as a result of this horrible accident. We will continue to strive and assist them in any way we can. The Fort Bend County Deputy Sheriff’s Association is calling on all of their fellow co-workers, public safety officers, family and friends to join them in making a monetary donation (no amount is too small) to the John Norsworthy benefit account and to continue to pray for Deputy John Norsworthy’s family.
